Building a New Future from Old Pallets
date : 2017-03-28
The Sustainability Science & Engineering (SSE) students partnered with the International College Environmental Action and Protection Coalition (ICEPAC) to tackle three sustainability projects for the Tunghai community this past month. The first is a rainproof display board which will display the surrounding area’s air quality index, informing Tunghai students on pollution levels in Taichung in comparison to other cities. The second is a fruit stand which will be used to increase awareness on healthy and environmentally-friendly food consumption. Third is a series of signposts reading “Do not feed the fish” which will be posted around Tunghai Lake to help keep pollution and toxins out of the water. All three projects were constructed by the students with the help of alum Seven Su from Tunghai Landscape Architecture. The display board, fruit stand, and signposts were all made from salvaged wooden pallets, meaning their design is as stainable as its purpose. Thank you to ICEPAC and the SSE students for increasing our awareness of sustainability issues and for building a more eco-friendly environment for everyone.
