SSE Students Go Camping

日期 : 2018-12-21

The Sustainable Resource Management class, led by Dr. Cara Lin, took a field trip from December 14th to 15th. Students hiked into the mountains, stopping in Huisun, Hohuanshan, Wuling Farm, and finally the Cilan Mountain to look at trees that have been growing there for thousands of years. Students had the opportunity to explore these forests, investigating whether these forests were planted and maintained by humans, how to tell the difference between Red and Yellow Taiwanese Cypress, and the Taiwan Blue Magpie’s daily life. The highlight of the trip was the guided tour at Makauy Ecological Park’s Divine Trees Garden. Located in the Cilan Mountains, this park is home to Red and Yellow Taiwanese Cypress trees that are thousands of years old. The tour guide explained not only how to identify these trees, but also provided engaging stories about the forest’s history. Several of these trees are over 2000 years old and are considered critically endangered.
