On Friday, January 4th, the International College faculty and staff bid farewell to their first class of 32 Hua Qiao University exchange students. These students, all in their third year, arrived in Taiwan at the beginning of the semester and spent the last five months taking classes and participating in various extracurricular activities to maximize their time spent abroad. To celebrate all of their achievements and to commemorate their time at Tunghai University, the IC held a farewell dinner in their honor. After a dinner of sushi, sashimi, beef, and wasabi the students all received certificates and Thermos bottles as a farewell gift from the college. One student, Samuel, emceed the event while two other students, Jack and Kathy, each gave a speech thanking their THU professors and teachers for all of their sup-port throughout the semester. The students prepared a PowerPoint presentation about their activities and experiences here, and the teachers all said a few words wishing them well as they finish their education back in Quanzhou. As a final gesture of their gratitude to the IC teachers and staff, these Hua Qiao students followed a mainland Chinese tradition by lowering their cups below those of their professors in a toast to their time here in Taiwan.
