The International College is excited to introduce their new student mentors! From left to right: Malia Dickson, Ethan Payne, and Annie Belleville. Malia is a graduate from Davidson College in North Carolina. She studied English and Gender & Sexuality Studies, while also finding time to participate in the school’s rowing team. An extrovert at heart, she loves meeting new people, petting dogs, rock climbing and seeking out new experiences, especially food, music, cultures, and sports. Ethan is finishing his final semester at Trinity University in Texas, working towards three degrees: International Relations, Spanish, and Chinese. As this is his first time outside of the US, he is apprehensive yet eager to experience all that Taichung has to offer. Often found enjoying the simple things in life, Ethan especially enjoys romance novels, reality TV, and coffee-flavored ice cream. Annie is a recent graduate from Trinity University in Texas and studied Chinese Studies and English. An avid gardener and plant-lover, she is often found taking photos of plants and excitedly discussing her growing collection. She’s also especially fond of visiting cafes, eating desserts, and practicing her Chinese. They are all incredibly excited for the upcoming school year and working with the IC students!
The student mentors play an important role in the IC program, providing extensive assistance to IC students. As native English-speakers, they help with language immersion as well as the adjustment to English-taught classes. On top of weekly office hours where they assist students with general classwork, the mentors will also be hosting speaking and writing workshops, TOEFL/IELTS test-prep, and study abroad advice. Finally, they’ll plan and host a few different cultural events throughout the year, bringing students together and exposing them to American culture. If you see them on campus, feel free to say hi!
